I have a Compaq P4 1500MHz, Windows 2000 PC.
I unistalled a CDRW driver (using Add/Remove Programs) with the CDRW disconnected as I have done before and everything seemed fine. On checking My Computer later I noticed that my CD-ROM drive letter "D" had disappeared.
Device Manager (under DVD/CD-ROM Drives) shows that the CD-ROM is still there but it has an exclamation mark against it. If the CD-ROM is double clicked, Device Manager shows the following message "your registry might be corrupted (code 19)".
Troubleshooter runs and shows "Windows 2000 could not retrieve the device's information from the registry." The suggested fixes uninstall/install and checking registry settings have been tried, without success. Power is still getting through to the CD-ROM drive and it has been switched with another CD-ROM drive to confirm it is still functional.
Any ideas?
