I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 Laptop running Windows XP. The CD-RW/DVD Player doesn't work. It has power, the computer recognizes it, but it will not read any CDs or DVDs. I have tried uninstalling it, updating the driver and still nothing. Any ideas would be GREATLY APRECIATED.

THANKS!! :-)

updating the driver"? Do you mean upgrading the firmware from the manufacturer's website? Usually this is not needed when the drive worked fine before.

Try running this:
Autofix

If that doesn't help, try booting with a 98SE floppy selecting CD-ROM support (you can go here to create one - See if you can read a CD from a DOS prompt.

Try a different user account, also. We fixed one today by creating a new account. Both CD and DVD disappeared on a Sony Multimedia Center PC. It works now.
