Help,

I have XP Pro and my CD-ROM drive has gone from Explorer/My Computer. When I put a CD in, XP reads it, but I can't explore it. The CD is there in the Device Manager with no apparent problems, but I just can't explore it.

The last time this problem occured, as the computer was brand new with no software except Windows itself, I re-installed, but this time it's in full operation at work and I can't do that again.

Any ideas?

It's not that - I discovered what it was...

A network drive had been mapped on my system as E:\.

When a USB cd-r was plugged in to write cds, it assumed D:\ for itself and the CD-rom was bumped up to E:\, which was already a drive, so the computer decided to keep the network drive and forfeit the CD. Re-mapping the network drive to a different letter and then restarting fixed it.

Cheers anyway!

Paul

That will do it. I am puzzled however how you through Windows Explorer can see the CD's contents in this case on Drive E:. I can see how in My Computer you would have a listing, but not Explorer.
