CD Rom & Writer not working

This is the error i have.

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

Why would this happen and anyone know how to fix it.

It means that Windows doesn't have the drivers to run your hardware. If there's a diskette that came with your CD-Rom use it, otherwise go the manufacturer's webpage and download them. Jennifer Sigman

Actually, CDROM drives have firmware built into them. Firmware contains the necessary translator eliminating the need for specific drivers (other than a generic one).

Try to remove them from the device manager (Control Panel -> System -> Hardware tab) and reboot. Hopefully Win2K will recongize the firmware and reinstall the necessary drivers.
