I've tried suggestions from similar threads but with no luck. My CD ROM works one day then not the next. The power to the drive is good (LED is on and it opens and closes). I can here a click noise but the disk doesn't spin. I get an error sayind 'D:/ is not accessible, the device is not ready'. Sometimes it does work. Any help would be appreciated.

If you've tried other suggestions with no luck then you may have a bad CD-ROM drive. They are pretty cheap now, so you might think about buying a new one. Is their a loaner you could try to prove it's a bad drive?? "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing....." [idea]

hi there:
erratic operation of CD drives can be caused by many things:
1-Try cleaning the lens,a dirty lens can be a cause of these problems.
2-I donot know what brand you are using. Some brands use a driving belt to spin the drive a bad belt can also be the cause.
3-If you have problem with certain type of CDs like RW ones you may need a driver.
Hope it helps

You could try cleaning the lazer optics with a cotton bud and cleaning fluid, this would required a certain amount of basic mechanical knowledge and a very soft touch with the bud.
Works 3 out of 5 times with such problems as you describe.
