Hello to all!

I've got a big problem. I have a PC with Win XP Pro already installed. Now i want to format my PC and install XP again. So i've booted from my XP CD. The PC gives me the messsage BOOTING FROM CD, INSPECTING HARDWARE'S CONFIGURATION alright. But when it comes to the blue screen saying WINDOWS SETUP, it should load all required files for the setup process BUT IT DOES NOT DO IT. I've tried another CD just in case my cd could have been corrupt but i get the same problem.

I've tried to boot from a win 98 boot disk to try to format and then try the CD again. But the boot disk does not even recognise my hard disk.

Why am i having such a problem?

You might want to try the setup image to make boot floppies. Try this link:
You will need another computer to complete this process. The image uses 6 floppies; so make sure you have newly formatted floppies, and the program will guide you through the rest.
Once the image is loaded onto the floppies, change the BIOS boot sequence to boot from the floppy first. REBOOT then insert disk 1 from the set of 6. As you will see, if will start to load just as if you were booting from CD. After the last disk is done, it will prompt you to insert the windows XP pro CD to finish the process.

good luck,

Hello!

Thanks for all you valuable advices.

To tell you frankly i don't know what happened with my PC, but just after i posted this message, i tried to boot from the CD again and it worked just fine.

Now the problem why i had wanted to format my PC.

I've got a Pentium IV 2.6 Ghz PC. When i had just got it it was very fast. But gradually it slowed down. Defragmentation did not help. It took more than 1 minute to shut down. So i decided to format my hard disk. But the problem is not solved. It still takes more than 1 minute to shut down. Why?

I would check your BIOS settings....follow the manufacturers recommendations for proper configuration and flash the BIOS to the latest version available. You did not mention if this machine was part of a workgroup or domain or if its a standalone PC. Check the Event Viewer(RIGHT CLICK My Computer - MANAGE - Event Viewer)for any errors that might indicate what the issue may be. In the same location double check the Device Manager for any conflicting or troublsome hardware.
Is this PC a branded PC (dell, compaq) or is it one that was built for you?

Member JeffPr has put together a summary of threads and resources in his FAQ: faq779-4784

You need to take several approaches to XP becoming slow; my own opinion is a reinstall (unlike earlier Windows releases) is not the most promising course of action to resolve the slow problem.

Could be a dying HDD as well. Run a diagnostic on your HDD to make sure it's read/write times are within your manufacturers specs.
