CD Drive Detection Problem - Registry Related - W2k Compaq N610c

Hi,

Im new to the board, this is my first post, so Hey to everyone.

Got a bit of a problem.

A guy has just come to me with his laptop, saying the CD drive wont show up in My Computer.

Its a Compaq Evo N600c running Win 2k SP2.

Cd drive is detected by Hardware manager, and can be uninstalled and re-installed - but H/WM reports problems with the device - saying the registry could be corrupt.

There are no other problems with the laptop apart from this.

Has anyone heard of this happening before, I think it started happening after he uninstalled Easy CD creator, but cant be sure.
