I can't seem to find any information on this, so I hope it hasn't been dealt with too many times before!! Blank media comes in all different speeds, 1-4x, 1-8x, 1-12x, etc. The question is, If you have a burner that has a top speed faster than the blank media, do you run into problems burning higher than the max advised media speed?

I have a 24x burner, and I've been using 12x & 16x in it and burning at 24x with no APPARENT problems. I've tested the media afterwards, and still no problem. Is media sorta like memory, where it's rated PC100, but some sticks actually perform at PC133 or higher? Am I lucky and the TDK burner and media are just performing well? Or am I running into long-term problems with this media by "overburning," where it degrades faster? Or something else...

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't worry about it degrading or anything like that. If burning at higher speeds doesn't cause any problems for you, then I wouldn't worry. The printed speeds on blank media are the speeds at which they were tested or verified (usually based on current technology available at the time of its release). It isn't uncommon to be able to burn at the next highest speed above what the CDR or CDRW claims is OK. It is uncommon however, to take a CDR only approved up to 4x and burn at 16x. But taking 12x or 16x media and burning at 24x has been known to work.
