CD & 3 1/2 floppy drives dont work

i cleared the hard drive and installed windows 98 on my compaq. then after i installed it, whenever i put a cd or floppy in their respective dricves and try to run the disc my computer tells me the drive is not accesable and theat the device is not ready. Can you tell me what is wrong and how to fix it please??

Try removing them one at a time from device manager and then rebooting.Windows will find them and install the drivers.The drivers might have got corrupted.
