Hi!
While Win98 starts, it acceses my Yamaha crw2100s for apx. 10 seconds first, and then my Cd-Rom, only after that it continues to load.
Win 2000 acceses the crw for 20 seconds at the splash screen.(that is really annoying), then continues to load.
What might be the problem?
Thanks!

Hi
When you start the unit, press the appropriate key.. generaly it is DEL key... and gt into the BIOS.
You will have a menu choice to tell the computer in which order the boot sequence shall proceed. The default could be..
1st choice.. CDROM
2ndCHoice... Floppy drive or removeable drive
3rd choice.. IDE0 (harddisk or C:)

Here you make the first choice as IDE0 or C: or harddisk.. whihc ever it permits you to do.

SAVE and restart. Now the waiting time will not be there.

Hope this helps you :) ramani :-9

I agree with Ramani except I suggest you make the first choice Floppy Drive or (A:) as if you ever have problems and need to boot from a floppy this will enable it. It does not slow down the start up procedure noticeably. Make the second choice IDE0 or C: or harddisk. If it gives you a third choice make that the CD ROM

My boot sequence is C and that's all. The problem is not during the boot, but during windows startup.

. The autoinsert notification for CD-ROMS can hurt performance a bit because the system will periodically access the CD-ROM to test for the insertion of a disk. It is a good idea to disable autoinsert notification by un-checking that box in the Device Manager. At one time, attaching a fast disk drive as a master and a slow CD ROM drive as a slave on the same IDE channel would pull that channel's overall performance down to the level of the slower device.
