I'm sure this applies to a lot of you too...

Given that Citrix have a bunch of new recertification requirements to be complied with before May 1, what are those of us doing that don't have access to instructor-lead training?

It's not like there are a lot of options...

Are these exams (like the NFuse and CSG exams I passed last year) passable from only experience plus manuals?

I'm planning on building study guides as I go and posting them on my site again for public use.

Last time I had something like 650 downloads of my CSG and NFuse study guides and not a single feedback response, despite it being a condition of use. This time I'm more in tune with human nature :D

Actually, I've gone and checked the certification requirements again. I've determined that I need to pass 1Y0-913 which is out of beta but not yet available for sitting, 1Y0-992 which is still IN beta, plus one of two electives which appear to be released to prometric already.

Am I interpreting the requirements correctly when I'm assuming I will not be CCEA certified on May 1 if I do not pass the required exams? That seems crazy to me when it's not yet even POSSIBLE to sit one of them, and the other is still in beta.

There's only 6 weeks to go... I'd be interested in hearing what others have to say.

The way I read it, an alternate exam for the 992 is 991. They don't really make it real clear, but there are alternates that you can take. The only exam that has officially retired is 940/941. But they have changed the cert requirements.

The 913 and 992 are not available yet, you are correct. You can, however, take the 911 and 921 to satisfy the 913, or if you have one under your belt, you can take the other to make up for it. You can also take the 991 instead of the 992.

For example, if you have passed 220, 911, 921, 931, and 961 for your current CCEA, you only have to take 991 and one of the electives. You do get the following warning:

"Exams 930/931 and 950/951/961 have been discontinued, and their retirement is imminent. It is strongly recommended that you pass exam 962 to avoid the likelihood of decertification."

This is just a "warning" though, as those exams have not officially been retired.

Current Exam Alternate
222 218, 220, 221
913 910 or 911 AND 920 or 921
962 930 or 931 AND 950, 951 or 961
992 991

For the 913 and the 962, you must meet TWO of the alternate exams to satisfy the requirement. If you have passed 911 AND 921, then you do not have to take the 913.

Of course you still have to take an elective exam, either 721 or 972.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I agree, there still are other ways forward. But it seems silly to me that they've posted the latest versions of exams that cannot yet actually be taken.

It would be even sillier of ME to sit older versions of exams knowing that their expiry could well be imminent.

On a slightly different note, has anybody taken 1Y0-913 (Citrix MetaFrame XP Presentation Server, Enterprise Edition FR3 Admin) or 1Y0-992 (Citrix MetaFrame XP Presentation Server, FR3 Deployment and Support) yet?

The topics listed are all quite familiar to me. As far as book learning goes, is the PDF documentation enough to get by on?

The same applies for the SAM and PM exams. Are the Admin guides sufficient?

I took the SAM test last friday and passed. I will tell you that the Admin Guide alone will not do it. The thing to look out fo are the Index Server questions, There was a tone of them.

I took the PM exam(972) last Saturday and the Admin Guide is not enough for it either. I did however manage a 80% by using it, the 1320AW e-course and the practice exams at citrixxperience.

I took the 913 exam yesterday. I also found that the admin guide was not sufficient for this exam. The key materials for this are the admin guide for FR3, the Resource Manager Admin Guide, Installation Manager Admin guide, and the retired or soon to be installation manager (I think it was the 921 study reference guide by Citrix)for some practice questions. I also used the Course materials for the 6100 but that was more for reference.

Know how to configure Resource Manager. Understand the different tabs within RM. Fully understand how to install, configure, and troubleshoot both IM and RM.

I felt this test focused more on those two components then any other "administration" components.

I forgot to mention in my previous thread what not to study from. Stay away from the TestKing guide, at least for this exam. I know other individuals that have used the testkings guides for additional study material. In the past they have included answers and descriptions to why the answer is what it is.

In this particular case, they were strictly Q and A. There were numerous typo's in the doc. Questions were repeated throughout the document, BUT WITH DIFFERENT ANSWERS!!! There was information about Winframe (remember you are taking an exam on FR3, not winframe). I just felt it was a waste of time and money for additional study resources.

Later I discovered that the Citrixxperience offers practice exams for the 913. I took the online sample which did give descriptions and covered more of the concepts that were on the actual exam. This may be worth checking out if you are looking for practice questions before taking the exam.

Passed MSAM (722) this morning to FINISH my CCEA recertification. TGIF. [thumbsup2] Recalling the MSAM Console settings/options from memory is very important.

Yep. The Exam outline at Citrix is right on target with what you need to know. I printed it out and documented the page numbers to reference in the FR3 Admin & Advanced Admin guides.
