Catalyst 6500/3500 VLan Routing Setup

I need to configure routing between the two VLAN's on our network that were configured by an outside source. We have a Catalyst 6500 core (does have two MSFC modules) and run fiber backbone (1-Gig) to 3548XL switches. I do have active ports on the core switch as well. (Sorry if my model numbers are incorrect).

The switches use x.x.x.x network for their management and routing, and the ports are all set for y.y.y.y addresses. Vlan 1 is x.x.x.x and Vlan 2 is y.y.y.y End stations (desktops and servers) are all on y.y.y.y network. We want to enable routing between the two networks... and I'm getting confused reading all the CISCO stuff from their website... it looks easy enough but I need to hear that someone has done it... any help?

Sounds like you need to revisit your access list configuration. Permit traffic from y.y.y.y network to x.x.x.x network.

Ok, so since I didn't configure it, and there are no access lists configured that I know of, explain/generalize the access list routine for me...

Vlans are routing, so after you telnet to the switch and are in enable mode you will need to do: type session 15 and press enter. Now you will be in the router portion of the switch.

In this area you will be able to enter the config mode to make routing mods.

What specifically are you trying to allow: telnet to switches and routers from the workstations or select machines?

Well, my problem is this, the switches are on private addresses and everything else on my network is on public (not correct, I know, but I am working that out this way). My goal is to make the two vlans interchangeable that way I can migrate addresses one address at a time, and still remain connected. Does that make sense?

(A lot of addresses to change, all of them have to be statics also, so each device has to be visited...)

Interchangeable meaning all TCP/IP traffic is allowed to flow in either direction y.y.y.y to x.x.x.x and vice versa?
