I have a 4006 switch that has 3 power supplies in it. I have recently had my data center rewired and added a second UPS, so that I now have two (somewhat) independent sources of power available. I am attempting to distribute all my power usage between the two UPS systems where a device has more than one power supply. I know some of my servers with three power supplies, will not function if only one power supply has power. So my question here is -

Can a 4006 switch function on only one power supply? Example-If I have 2 of the three power supplies plugged into UPS #1 and 1 of the three power supplies plugged into UPS #2 and UPS #1 goes down, will the switch still run?

IIRC It depends on what modules are installed and whether it is configured for power redundancy (which I think is the default). There are some commands (probably 'show power' etc) that will show you the power available and the power used etc.

The answer is no a 4006 must have 2 power supplies to operate , the 3rd is just redundant . You will see a warning message as it boots up if you only have 1 active power supply .
