I am connecting two Catalyst 3750 switches and want to connect them with the provided stackwise cable, since each one comes with a cable should I use both or just one? The diagrams in the book only show connecting three or more units...

1. when you stack 3750s the whole stack will be seen as a cluster.
2. The back plane is 32 Meg
3. The second calble is to loopback to the first 3750
which means that if you have a stack of 3 x 3750 and the second 3750 fail-out, the loopback (3 to 1) will help the cluster to manage the first and the third one.
4. you might stack up to 8 (or 9)3750s

Sorry,

the bi-directional backplane is 32 Gbps instead of 32 Mbps

So I should use both cables crossed in an X on the back of the two units, or save the cable until I add a third unit?

At the rear of each 3750, you have slot1 and 2:

3750a-slot2 to 3750b-slot1
3750b-slot2 to 3750a-slot1

the day you insert a new3750 (i.e 'c') between a and b
then:
- a2 to c1
- c2 to b1
- b2 to a1 (remaining unchanged)
