Not sure if locking up is the best way to describe this issue. This is the second time this week our switch just starts flashing and access is down. At first we thought it was a memory issue, but that is no longer the case. It is as if the VLAN just shuts down.

We are currently running 12.0, only have 1 VLAN set up at this current time. All the lights flash at the same time. All ports are up/up.

I had a similar issue with a 2950 and my VLAN was shut down, the Cisco God's did it, because no one here touched it as it is sitting on my desk for testing purposes. The config was saved so a restart could not have caused a config issue.

any ideas?

I had that issue once with a 3524XL

My problem turned out to be the power supply pins.

Take it apart. Look on the system board where the power supply pins touch the "motherboard."

Take a power cord that *IS NOT PLUGGED INTO THE WALL* and plug it into the cisco switch.

wiggle it while looking at the pins.

do they move? mine did

What happened with mine was the pins were coming "un soldered" on the board. They moved. That was causing an electrical arc which caused my switch to randomly reboot, or all the lights flash orange, and it led to my switch being down.

A simple hard-solder of the pins back to the board fixed my problem.
