I have read a few threads here posted by people who have had this same problem. The problem is when you log into the console port you get modem strings, ie ATQ0H0.

I have reset the firmware, and even erased and Xmodem'ed in new firmware. I still cannot get it past this modem string problem. I can get to the diagnostic area without a problem. Is this a cable issue? I bought a db9 null modem cable that is female on both ends.

The post I read never followed up saying if it was resolved or not. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Scott Farrell

I did the same thing also. You have an older 1900. I finally used the right cable and it worked. Check the cisco site for the correct pin out.

That is a very good pint forgotten by many. The older 1900s are the old cresendo line and just have a Cisco case around it. The console port wants the lines setup as a null modem which is not the same as the console RJ45 and ribbon cable that Cisco uses today. I made up a cable by flipping one end of the RJ45 cable and then built my own RJ45 to DB9 adapters from RED cases so I would not confuse them with my normal cables. These cables also work on the 3com console port.

Cool, thanks for the follow-up. I have posted a FAQ for others to follow if they have this same problem. It includes the proper pin-outs and all. :p
