I have an issue with the Catalog backup. We currently have an Oracle based server that kicks off an Rman script to start the backup. It keeps missing it window because around the same time a Catalog backup kicks off whic takes about 36 minutes. what I want to do i delay the Catalog form kicking off aorund this time. I know you might suggest changing the backup time for the server, but lets just assume I cant change that backup schedule and leave it at that. Any suggestions on the Catalog end?

I've got my catalog backup set to run after each session of backups. In this way it only runs when there is dead air time. But then a again it would be a mistake to schedule backups to a half hour gap. Backups are just not like that, no 2 will be the same and you are taking a gamble if you put your money on them aways running at the same time in the same order.

This will work.

Set the catalog to never run automatically (must run manually)
before the rman user_directed backup runs via the command line
bpsyncinfo -bw never

Then turn the scheduled catalog backups on via the command:
bpsyncinfo -bw schedule

This command can be done via a scheduler
or if you want to get fancy, via the bpstart/end functions.

Heres some useful information on catalog backups:
How to configure and backup NetBackup catalogs from command line.
