I am hoping to be able to capture a data stream by opening a particular access form. I was thinking this would be an event-triggered capture (i.e. opening the form is the event). Then I need a number of fields to be filled in with the captured data associated with that point in time when the form is opened. Other fields in the form will be filled out by hand. The data is coming in through a serial cable, to a USB.

Thoughts?

The physical connection is not what matters, but rather what format is the data in? A text file, a database of some sort, spreadsheet, what? It's got to come across somewhere..

The data is ASCII letters and numbers, not binary strings. Does that help?

No. Where is the data when you're trying to find it? You've got to be able to see it some where. Is it in a flat text file that comes across, and overwrites a previous one? A Flat text file that comes in and is appended to another.... a text file that is saved to a different filename each day or whenever the process is run, what? There's got to be a way the data is stored.
