captured clips play in the clip window but wont play in the monitor

I have captured clips form my dv cam and they all play fine but when i put them in the time line and try and play them in the monitor a click play it trys to play and then stops. Any surgestions.

Has anyone had any luck resolving this? I have basically the same problem but my audio will play with just a black screen with a small 'x'. Doesn't matter if I've saved and created preview. JPEGs play fine.

Double check your project settings: project/project settings/general/playback settings. Ensure "playback on DV camcorder" is off and "playback on desktop" is on.

Double-checked that, Dan. It is set to play on desktop. Also, the sample files that came with Premiere play fine in the Monitor window. I have another thread in here that starts off "jasek78! Monitor problems...." in which I've listed my different Settings. Thanks for the thought, though.
