I just added 1 new 2003 server in 2 of our 3 locations. Soon to install the third in the third location. I wanted to create a share that would automatically replcate to all three sites. So I created a DFS root on one server and a target on the remote server. Nothing happened so I quickly learned that replication won't take place unless there are at least 2 root targets. I added a second root target on a Windows 2000 server at the third location and the files replacted. (Sorry about the extraneous info, just trying to give you a picture of the network structure.)

Problem: I can't copy any files into any of the shares on any server by using the share and browsing. However, If I go to \\servername\d$\share I can write the files and they will replicate. Is this a feature of DFS? I'm logged on as a domain admin, and domain admins have full control over the share and full permissions.

may sound silly but default share permission is read only.. check this on your dfs share to see..

Not silly at all. Right after I wrote that post I realized 2003 default share permissions are RO. I kinda' forgot that no matter what my NTFS permissions are, I get the share permissions if I enter by the share UNC name. (Then I went to pour a cup of coffee an realized I forgot to put water in the machine.) I hope the rest of the week goes better...

lol :)
