can't view events in event log

We have a Windows 2003 server.
IIS is NOT running.
Exchange is NOT installed.
Drive C: and F: have gigabytes of free space.

I can open the Event Viewer from Adminstrative Tools or MMC.
When I go to look at the Application Log or System Log, however I get a message telling me access is denied.

"Unable to complete the operation on 'Application'. Access is denied."

Any help would be appreciated.

what user do you use to login and see the event viewer ?

I am loggin in via PCAnywhere.
