Can't verify which server is master replica

I had a server hardware failure on a Netware 5.0 tree containing two servers separated by a WAN link. The remote box is a total loss and cannot be powered up.

When I check the replica ring information, they both show read/write. I can only assume that the remote server held the master replica. I've already replaced the dead Netware server with a Win 2003 server, so I just need to stop the only remaining server in the tree from trying to communicate with the one that not longer exists.

A Replica ring is specific to a single tree, is it not? If I promote the remaining server on this tree to be a master replica, will it effect the replica ring of another tree?

If the answer no, then the plan is as follows: promote the remaining server to master; remove the dead server in NDS manager; remove all objects related to the dead server in Netware Admin.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Tom

Too bad you had to put a w2003 server in. I notice that it was a HARDWARE failure that killed the Novell box.

Just take a read/write and make it a Master (In DSREPAIR, not NDSMGR). Then kill the server that's no longer around in NDSMGR. Should be fine after that.

Then, put eDirectory on the W2003 server so it can be put to good use again. :)
