Can't use Ping command with Names !!

Hi !!

I have a problem when i try to Ping a Pc using:
c:\Ping compras
unknow host compras

This Pc have an ip address:
123.58.20.40

When i use the Ping Command with the IP number, the PC answer correctly, but when i use Name, it does not work.

The other PC's on my LAN can't resolve the name as well.
I am using Windows2000 Professional.

Any Idea?

Are you running Wins, DNS or hosts and lmhosts? Try pinging a company. I can ping

http://www.google.com

and get a reply. Try it and see what you get. This might tell you if it's internal only. Are you sure the names are correct? Good luck.

this happens to me also but i overlooked the typo on subnet info...
