Please help me. I have a very large book file which I have been trying to update in order to produce a Table of Contents and an Index. For some reason in a couple of the chapters there is an unidentifiable font called "Tempus Sans ITC" which FrameMaker does not recognize. I do not have it loaded on my machine. So, it converts things in this font to "Times."

I have done this repeatedly:

I do a search on the "Times" font and use the character designer to change anything in "Times" back into the font I use in the chapter. I change everything tagged with this font. I save the chapter.

When I reopen the chapter it once again finds this "Tempus Sans ITC" font and won't allow me to do any updating! AARGH! I have tried to import the formats from other chapters in my book that do not seem to have this problem, but it doesn't work.

Does anyone have a suggestion for me!? I am irritated beyond measure and need to have my document done by next week. Thank you!

Sounds frustrating. I'm new to Framemaker, and I haven't encountered your problem. But have you tried saving the file as another name after you correct the font?

You probably have the preference Remember Missing Font Names
turned on (which is the safe choice). Temporarily turn it OFF,
open the document, confirm the message and save the file.
You should not have this problem for this file anymore.
Repeat for all files with missing fonts.

The method above is only safe if you know the font really isn't
used anywhere. Don't do this with external files you receive
and that should be delivered back to the external part.

One thing you need to remember is that Frame uses fonts on master pages and references pages, not just body pages. So you should probably search for the font on those types of pages, too.

In the Find/Change dialog box, select Character Format in the Find list. When the Find Character Format list pops up, press <Shift + F8> to set everything to As Is. Then select the font you're looking for in the Family list.

Hope this helps!

Rick
