I was oh sooo clever and thought that I would download "lightstep", a program to make my life miserable! It installed and ran ok...but when I went to change themes...my computer locked up and I keep getting "blue screen memory dump errors".

I went into safe mode and tried to do a system restore...but It won't ever allow it to happen...keeps saying there was a problem with my restore (yes I do have it turned on w/ 4G of memory allocated to it).

I tried the XP setup disk and it tells me that it CANNOT UPGRADE due to a 3rd party kernel!

I am currently up and running in safe mode, but thsi isn't good enough! I did manage to uninstall LITESTEP, but my problem is still here!

Can anyone help me!!!!

Thanks!

1. How long ago was this lightstep installed? It is possible you can do a registry repair/replacement to solve this issue:

A plain english version of the above:

2. Read all the little links on the left panel of this site:

To get further information about the error look in your Event viewer.

Look in the System or Application folder. You can get to the Event Viewer via right click My Computer icon and select Manage.

Any errors logged in the Event Viewer can be expanded by double clicking on the error line.

Take any event error I.D. number and search for it on this site.

Also check any "Information" line that mentions "savedump" and you should find reference to "recovered from a bug check". This is the Stop Error that caused your problem.

You can also turn off "automatically restart after an error" so it will just halt at the fault and display the full Stop Error and blue screen.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties .
On the Advanced tab, click Settings under Startup and Recovery .
Click to clear the Automatically restart check box under System failure , and then click OK . The error message on a blue screen should remain on the screen so you can record the error information.
