I tried the shutdown command from within the text mode and it wouldn't shutdown. I went to man help screen for more options. I then used: shutdown -h but no luck. In order to shutdown i have to go into the GUI and shutdown.

Any ideas of why i cant shut down in text mode. I am logged in as root.

Try "shutdown -h now". You have to tell it when you want to shutdown.

Thanks Franklin. The shutdown -h now command worked fine.
