When sending mails from outlook express I get the following message.

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'support@videologic.com'. Subject 'Sound vortex2', Account: 'mail.genie.co.uk', Server: 'mail.genie.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '553 RCPT <support@videologic.com> ERROR. Relaying not allowed', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 553, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

I have AOL installed and use it for dial up. I did have a few problem before with win98SE but I usually could send messages.

The only messages I can send are ones to xPerson@genie.co.uk. I.e. the mail server I am using.

Is this some kind of security measure?

Is there a fix?

I also use zonealarm but have given outlook express permission to access the internet.

Windows 2000 service pack 2. Via 4.33

Thanks in advance

Chris

If you are sending a large file the server may reject it due to mailbox size limitations. The SMTP server you are using has relay blocks to prevent SPAM mail. If it is a forwarded message try to copy and paste the message as an original. If you are using outlook it is not compatable with AOL's proprietary e-mail server, except in some cases setting your SMTP to aol.enetbot.com, your pop3 to aol.enetbot.com and using your aol user and pass.
The error could also be from one of the following. Outlook client is behind a Microsoft Proxy server or the Outlook does not have the Winsock Proxy client installed.

Also, the error may occur if you launch AOL after you launch outlook or you are doing send only in outlook. Sometimes the problem can be resolved by doing send/receive. This allows for user authentication first before the SMTP is attempted and it won't be rejected as spam. If your POP server is not the same as your SMTP server it may view the also view the mail as spam. You may want to contact AOL.

I hope I understood the problem correctly. If not please post back.

It sounds like you understand the problem much more than me. However, I do not fully understand your solutions.

I have a feeling it is AOL. However, I must use the pop3 setting to be genie as this is where my account is. Perhaps setting smtp to aol.enetbot.com will solve my problem?

I usually log on to AOL before outlook express.

Furthermore the setup used to work with windows98SE.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to be so confusing. Have you tried re-entering the SMTP info in outllok and saving? Beleive it or not I have had similar problems and re-entered and saved and it solved it. Go figure. Another way I have found for sinmilar problems is using an ISP as a connection only by setting up through IE. Go to control panel/internet options and select the connections tab, select add under dial up settings, click next, select only for myself, click next and set your user name, password and domain. Set the dial up numbers in properties. This will use the ISP connection but not connect to AOL services. It will connect this way whenever you launch a browser vs. dialing into AOL network and services. You should be able to get it to work this way as an alternative. Hope this helps

Yes I just tried your first idea and it didn't work. What I did was to re-type the same thing in the smtp bit and click apply; for each account I have. I can use other ISP to send emails, its just AOL that stops me. They understand this problem exists appaerently. I think I'm going to leave AOL I can't be expected to use their email, its a joke.
