Can't see some NT4 workstations from XP Pro Desktops

I run a NT 4 network which now has both NT Workstations and XP Pro desktops. Various Nt 4 workstations are not visible on the xp machines but some are, I have checked the network properties of the NT Workstations and they all seem to be the same. However if you carry out a search in network places the non visible computer becomes visible and can then be explored. Has anyone seen this problem and can help me find a solution.
