Cant see server

Guys can you please help me out with this one...
on our network the pdc/file server keeps dropping out..like
users see the server through network neighbourhood, sometimes its there...sometimes its not visible..but i can still access it using unc method...i really need to know why its happening...i've tried rebooting the server the switches..but no success..
any ideaS??

Updated all device drivers?
Checked Physical NIC?
Checked Cables?
If you have a fluke, test the cables, switch ports etc.
If you dont have a fluke, plug into different switch ports.
If you cant test at all, promote a BDC to PDC, rebuild the old PDC.
