1. Make sure file and printer sharing is turned on each machine.
2. If there isn't a shared folder, it may not appear in the list.
3. Make sure you are running NetBEUI on the 9x computers, browsing is much quicker and more stable.
4. I've often found that if you do a start>find>computer, and search for the computer name, that it will find it. Right click and create shortcut to put it on the desktop.
Let me know if this helps, if you need more help, post with number of desktops in the workgroup, and the operating systems you are using.
Good luck
Matt J.

It may help on the machines the cant browse the network to uninstall the network hardware and let windows reinstall it. Sometimes it might fix a small bug that is otherwise undetectable.
This fixed my machines.
I've done find computer, it finds the one with the shared folder i have created (computer name is 232) but when i doubled click it, an error message pops up saying \\232 is not accessable not logged on.
Go into the control panel>network applet, make sure Client for Microsoft Networks is there. There is a drop down box where you can make it the default network client. Make sure that is the case. Reboot and enter a name and a password.
If Client for Microsoft Networks is not there, hit add, client, and add it. You may be prompted for the 9x disk, or if you search for the *.cab files, point to that location when prompted. If you are not prompted, just reboot when its done. Enter a name and a password.
Now you should be able to browse other computers.
In order for 9x PCs to browse a network or access network resources, the Client for Microsoft Networks must be present, you want it to be the default network client (unless you are running novell of course), and you must be logged on. Hitting ESC or clicking cancel when the logon prompt comes up will negate your ability to access network resources.

we are installing some desktop security software on there which requires it to be logged in as the default user! So what i've done is isntalled the client service etc but used a windows logon and gone to password in control panel and select use the same profile for all users. Some pcs can still see the network without logging in and i can't think why! I have noticed that a 2 pc's with the same network cards and they are both working fine!
