We successfully made some changes to a couple of the acl's we have on our router, then did the sh run command, but couldn't see all of the changes we had made. Only the changes on one of the acl's appeared. However, when we performed a sh access-list 100, all of the changes we made were there. Why couldn't we see those changes in the running config?

Okay, basic question to you...did you reboot at any time and if you did was a copy run start performed?

Does this router have a high CPU/Memory load? I seen routers drop portions of a config changes while "cutting-n-pasting" big ACL's from a text file.

Or another is bad memory :( I've seen that happen on an older 2500 we had. You could make config changes, do a show run and they would not show up in the config but would be "running" on the router. It also dropped other parts of a config that were not changed. We took the router out of service and I put new DRAM in and it seamed to work fine after that!

Not sure if any of these are your issues...just what I've seen in the past.

Good Luck

hmmm had that the other day... show config and show run showed different things. the show config showed the changes and the show run didn't. Did you do a wr mem afterwards? With me that solved my problem.

Yep- we copied it to the start-up config; it didn't make any difference. No, we didn't reboot at any time- rebooting is not considered an option unless it's absolutely necessary. Are there any other signs that we can look for to see if it's bad memory?
