Got a problem with my old pc; running Win95. I want to remove the LPT and also the Printer Port from my device manager but all I get is an error message "You have device category selected. Device categories cannot be removed. click the plus sign next to the device category and then click the device you want to remove" I know about the plus sign to access the device but I get this message when I select then click remove on my LPT1 and Printer Port. Any ideas out there?

I want to remove LPT and Printer port so that I can reinstall fresh port. Got a printer that is not communicating with the pc and want to make sure port is configured properly.

Try disabling in the CMOS and see if that helps.

Any advice I give is my best judgement based on my interpretation of the facts you supply. Help increase my knowledge by providing some feedback, good or bad, on any advice I have given.

If your printer is not communicating with the PC, check the status of the printer in CMOS. You may need to change to EPP (Enhanced Parallel Port) and not SPP (Standard Parallel Port.

Also check that you have the right drivers for the printer and the operating system that you are using.

I'll look in to all of that and keep you posted. Thanks.
