We are running Exchange 5.5 Sp4

We have a Site\Server in our Exchange Organisation which no longer exists. However, the site still appears in Exchange Administrator and the mailboxes\folders that weren't migrated to other servers still appear in the GAL\public folders list.

The question is how can we delete them? I cannot do anything except view the properties of the remaining resources. Restoring or recreating the Exchange server is not an option except as a last resort. Can anyone help me please?

You can't delete a site from the organisation, you need to stop all replication between the site and other sites and delete all connectors from that site and any bridghead. The organisation then "loses" knowledge of the site in question.

Thanks very much jpaf.

The server of the site that I want to "remove" no longer exists therefore I can't remove its site connector. Will this still work if I stop the replication and remove the site connector from the bridgehead only?

yes. remove the directory replication connector and site connector. after a while , the site will be removed from the org...

As Bronto says, remove the connector. As long as that remains, the bridgehead is fooled into thinking the other site is still there.

I have a similar question, but a little different.

I have 5 sites that all have Exchange server installed. 1 site, Germany is the main installation and had connections to the other 4.

US was deleted and shutdown, I removed the connection and the replication on Germany and now it does not appear under Germany, UK, or Switzerland. However it does still appear under Italy and France.

France and Italy did not have a connection or replication with US directly, but picked up replication from Germany.

If I try and delete it manually by logging into Exch Admin raw, I get the message:

The object has not yet been completely replicated, or cannot be changed from this connection. Try connecting to a Microsoft Exchange Server computer in the same site as this object.

Will the US OU disappear from Italy and France in time, or is there something else I can do?

Thanx

If I understand this correctly, Germany is the hub and is the only one with connectors. If the US site has disappeared from all except Italy and France then it sounds like thoses sites have replication issues. Try a manual DIRECTORY REPLICATION, pulling Germany from Italy, then France. If it's still an issue you might consider stop\starting MS Exchange Directory service on both servers, then doing a rep.
