We had a pre-installed AIX system with a graphics adapter. My company decided that we didn't need this and the installation company removed the card. This RS6000 box now regularly hangs and needs rebooting. I was told to remove fileset devices.graphics.com and rcm0/gxme0 file from /dev. I successfully completed the latter but get the following message when trying to remove devices.graphics.com:

The following filesets were selected for deinstallation. Deinstallability
checks indicate that they should not be removed from the system.
devices.graphics.com

Any ideas why or a way around this?

Hi mjjames !

How did you remove the gxme0 device , did u use the "rmdev"
command or did u manually delete the file ?, if u had manually deleted the file , i feel that the ODM would not have been updated properly.
Also i feel u should have removed the software (device drivers ) first and then removed the device file , may be u
r trying to do the reverse ....this is just my idea ,hope it helps u !

Hi,

I would suggest taking the system into maintenance mode and then removing the fileset.

I have removed graphics drivers e.t.c. I could not remove during normal system operation.

Good luck

Paul
