can't receive attachments with dots in filename

hello
can't figure out why mail sent to my exchange box with attachments containing dots don't get through. can't send a doc name "4.17.06". have to rename to 4_17_06 or something else. - oh, brackets don't get delivered either. "3[1]3" etc.

they go through just fine on my other exchange box (different site, different domain). on this box i have ScanMail, but i disabled it and they still don't go through.

any ideas?

looks like my third party spam filter (Postini) was the culprit.
