SUMMARY OF ISSUE:
Can print from a local " printer” as a client when using the Remote Desktop feature.
However, this can only be accomplished while in a “workgroup” setting (LAN).
When I connect to remote host, I am able to add the printer and am able to print, the printer goes through the mechanical motions, but does not print any ink (blank pages).
I have downloaded the correct drivers and have logged in to the domain with an account that I already created for my computer and my user account. But still no dice.
SETUP:
· VPN tunnel is setup via 2 Linksys BEFVP41 routers.
· Remote Location is setup as a Domain
· “Client” is a laptop with XP Professional.
· “Host” is a PC with XP Professional as well.
· “Client” has a Lexmark Z23 attached via a USB cable
o for extra measure, I have shared the printer.
CONNECTIVITY:
· From client, I'm able to go to "start" "programs" "accessories" "communications" and "remote desktop"
· From the "remote desktop" dialog box,
o I type the computer name and select the "options" button.
· Click on the "Local Resources" tab,
· Click "Printers" in the "Local Devices" box, and then click "Connect".
· Connecting to “Host” is not a problem.
MISC:
Once the remote connection is established, the local printer that is connected to the client SHOULD become default printer for any programs that I'm accessing from the remote "Host", but its not. (This works in a LAN environment)
THINGS I HAVE DONE:
· Disabled the "enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network" check box under the "Authentication Tab" for the NIC Properties (on both PC’s)
· From the "Add/Remove Windows Components (on client only)
o " Added "IIS services"
o "details"
o "World Wide Web Services"
o "details"
o "printers virtual directory"
· Verified that both "file & printer sharing for Microsoft Networks" & "Client" for Microsoft Networks" is enabled (on both PC’s)
