Can't ping ip.....

Just changed out Linksys wireless router, all machines can get on internet. Vista, XP and W2K Server. Everything works, except XP can't ping itself except for 127.0.0.1. It can ping Google by name and IP, but anything inside the network, it can't ping by name or ip, including itself. Must be something simple, but I'm at a loss. Windows firewall is turned off, no other firewall's running. I'm at a loss. W2K and vista not having the same problem, only xp. Ideas? Thanks.

Two things pop into mind, probably you already checked them, but you never know:

1.) Wrong IP, meaning XP either has gotten a rotten IP outside of the network...

2.) Gateway setting...

what does ipconfig show? all on same subnet?
what about ipconfig /displaydns? might need to do an ipconfig /flushdns then ipconfig /registerdns to repopulate the cache.

Thanks, checked that. Remember, heres the kicker. It can ping 127.0.0.1, but it can't ping 192.168.1.103, and it can't ping it's name. It CAN ping

http://www.google.com

AND ping 64.233.169.103, which is the ip that comes back from google. I did the display, the flush, the register, all is on the same subnet. Plus, it has no problem getting on the net. Never seen a problem like this.

Can it ping other machines on the network? Can it ping the gateway?

If it can't ping itself by IP, then ICMP is being filtered or blocked, most likely. Make sure you're not running any intenet security suite, especially Norton's.... also, Zonealarm will block incoming ICMP packets.

It can ping the gateway, it can ping the router. Changed it to a fixed IP, made sure zonealarm was turned off. All other machines can ping each other. It's just the one xp laptop. Can't figure it.

Turn ON the firewall SERVICE, but turn OFF the Firewall in Windows Firewall.

it might be a setting on the router (firewall, dns...., check for restrictions

If you have SP3 installed, check to see if the Network Access Protection Agent is not active...

also I would disable IPv6 on the NIC of the XP PC, just to see if it interferes or not (implementation is a bit flaky in XP at times, from what I had read and if I had the article I would post it)...
