Can't ping from NT 4.0 server

I can ping my NT 4.0 server from all of my network resources, but I can't ping any of my network resources from my NT 4.0 server, nor do I have Internet connectivity from my NT 4.0 server. The only thing that has changed is my NIC card. What gives?

The DNS settings are exacxtly the same as they were when it was working (that was my 1st thought too). Isn't the IP stack bundled with the operating system? How can I check to see if it is configured correctly? Thanks for your help.

If I ping from the server by machine name, it knows what the IP address of that machine is - but request times out. I don't see how this is possible. Other than not being able to ping/access the Internet from the server, the network is functioning properly (for now).

Sorry, I was being lazy - when I asked if the IP stack was configured correctly, I simply meant things like subnet mask, default gateway, DNS servers, that sort of thing. - not the software.

Does the ping just time out or is there no route found? CitrixEngineer@yahoo.co.uk

It just times out.

The IP configuration/DNS/Gateway is all correct.

Have you checked the routing table?
Are the other machines your trying to ping on the same subnet?
Has the machine got more than one network card configured? MCSE NT4/W2K

Yes! - Both cards.

Yes, the routing table looks fine. We're using Gateway working Mode and no Dynamic routing.
Are the other machines your trying to ping on the same subnet?
Yes.
Has the machine got more than one network card configured?
Yes - two. IP/subnet/gateway/DNS are fine on both cards. The problem started when we swapped NICs so that a KTI went to a like KTI (netbeui)on another server and the odd card communinicates TCP/IP to the network. Originally the odd card on the server was communicating netbeui - but had no IP Configured. It was working - but we swapped to optimize performance and we assigned an IP/subnet/gateway/DNS.

One way to check whether it's the routing (could be stale entries in DNS server / router cache), is stick an entry into your hosts file of a server you're trying to ping; ie

[IPOfServer] [Servername]

Then try pinging. If it's successful, the problem lies outside of the server.

Have you checked to make sure you have a network patch cable running from the 2 NICS to the switch?
