Hi everyone,

I cant seem to open MsWord files by clicking on them. I can however open them by going in MsWord > File > Open.

I think this is because the Open With settings for my MsWord docs have been modified, but I dont know what they should look like.

Powerpoint and other files are working ok, and I've tried copying their settings over, but this doesn't seem to work (i have changed the application to MsWord).

Any ideas?

Thanks

Sounds as if you have lost the association for .doc files. In Windows Explorer right click on any .doc file while holding down the shift key. On the resulting menu you should have an option "Open With". Click on this and scroll down through the list of programs displayed until you find MS Word or WinWord. Select this. Make sure the box that says "Always use this program to open files of this type" is checked and click OK. This should fix the problem.

Try this fix suggested by MS Newsgroups article.

The easiest way to fix damages to the registry entries of Word is to locate and double click the file (Winword7.reg) or (appropriate WinwordX.reg) version that resides in your MSOffice/Winword folder.
