Hello all,

I have a user who has his user folder on our file server synchronized using Offline Files of Windows XP so he can work on documents at home.

He is using Office 2000. Whenever he tries to save an Excel document when working offline, he gets an error message saying the file could not be saved to the specified file name, and will instead be saved to a temp file with a random name.

If I rename the temp file to have an .xls extension, everything is there. I want to find a way to stop this from happening so the user doesn't have to rename every file he created while offline.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

Thanks!

i suspect that under tools, options, general, the default file location is the network drive. when the default loc is not available xl tries to save it as a temp file. at least that's what i think
