Months ago I had problems with my Compaq USB keyboard in my Compaq presario. I got and have been using a no-name PS2 keyboard.
Because my computer had many OS problems (home edition, SP1) I did a complete reinstall, not an overlay, a month ago---it works MUCH better. But, when I now try to install (actually let XP install) the USB keyboard, I get a message that "an error occurred during installation of the device/cannot create a file that already exists". Of course, the keyboard doesn't work. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling/updating the driver.
Device manager recognizes it as an "unknown device/Compaq keyboard".
Any suggestions will be most appreciated.

Well, maybe I'm smarter than XP (poor me); In desperation, I manually installed it as an HID compliant (which I knew it was) keyboard, successfully.
Thanks anyway.
