I recently purchased a used Dell 8100 with windows XP pro, which boots up fine-even windows updates-except for a critical security pack. I get an error message that the product code is invalid. I phoned Microsoft and the tech there gave me a new product code to input with the system, since xp pro does not allow a second user. He told me that the security pack download should ask me for a new ##- but I cannot find a way to input the new code without totally reformating my hard drive. Any ideas?

You could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched. (If that doesn't allow you to re-enter your Product Key maybe deleting the wpa.dbl and wpa.bak from System32 and possibly the Dllcache folder might trigger it, keep a backup of them somewhere).
