Can't get XP computer to see my Win 98 one!!! 2

Okay- I am just trying to use the files and settings transfer wizard to move all of the stuff off of my pc to a laptop. The PC has win 98 se and the laptop has (eek!!) Win XP Home. (I didn't choose this

I ran the netsetup.exe from the files and settings transfer wizard, but when the computer (Win 98 se) restarts, I get an error message saying something like "Could not network because of a hardware problem". (I will get the whole error message the next time it happens)

Strangest thing is that sometimes I can see the 98 computer from the Win XP laptop, but only sometimes and I didn't get all of the settings and files moved over when I was able to see it- dumb dumb!!!

Has anyone else had this problem??

I am on a 50 computer network using a hub. I can get to anything else, but this one laptop!!!

I had a problem with an XPPro workstation not seeing or being seen by a W98 workstation. Installed Netbuie protocol on both and connection was made. Had to install Netbuie on XP machine from the XP CD, it is not preinstalled. I don't understand why Netbuie is necessary. Dennis E.

i had a problem with getting a 98 to recognize an XP, and solved the problem by turning off XP's built in firewall. you can do this (on the XP computer) by right clicking my network places, and going to properties. then right click your local area connection and going to properties. next click the advanced tab, and uncheck the Internet Connection Firewall. By unchecking this, my 98 computer was now able to see my XP computer and everything works fine as of now. hope this can help-Moooink
