Just finished upgrading a PC to Office 2000 and now trying to apply all the service packs for it. When I run the SR-1a installer, it starts up ok, displaying the message saying it's preparing to install, but that's all it ever does. I've run this update on lots of identical machines, and usually this message switches to the "updating" screen with progress bar after a couple seconds. I've waited over 10 minutes with no change.
The HD light is blinking in somewhat of a pattern, as if it's in a loop, but the OS isn't locked; I can start up and run anything else fine. I've tried diabling AV, makes no difference. I've tried using both the installer from our network or the built-in Windows Update (internet) method, same. I've deleted tmps, ran scandisk, tried rebooting. Nothing works. There are many gigs of free disk space, and there are no other problems with this PC (as if HD corruption was to blame).
