Any time I hit a site that requires Flash I get the usual 'This site requires......' and a 'Click here to install' option. I do this every time, and every time I do this it says I have successfully installed it, but then even if I reboot I go back to the site and I get the same message telling me 'This site requires....' Happens on numerous sites, most recently (ie today) the Nikon.co.uk site

I have tried this in normal IDs and in Admin IDs and still no joy. As best as I can recall this started around the time I installed SP2, but I can't be 100% sure of that.

I can't search the forum at the moment because search is down, so not sure if it has been asked before, but any pointers as to where to look would be great.

Win XP Pro SP2

Cheers

Had the same error/problem, eventually I had to download the file directly from Macromedia and turn off my Firewall...

hope this helps...

Hmmmm, on broadband so don't thinking switching off the firewall is an option I'd consider. :)

Cheers Bill, that nailed why I guess.

Fundamentally the web pages need to be re-written. I do not see much on the user end to help.

LOL - Ditto Bill, long time no speak - Been pretty hectic at work for a while though, so have been absent for a little while. Trying to catch up now though. :)

KenWright,

There is the option to remove the local lockdown under IE. This is essentially a backdoor to disabling a fundamental SP2 security change. You might need to do this for a secure site with Flash or other ActiveX controls that you absolutely need to access:
My personal preference would be to leave the setting unchanged, or to do it as a .reg file that you could then in the logon script or otherwise set back to the defaults.

But you can short-circuit the local lockdown.

This registry edit is easy to do but has wide implications for the security of your SP2 workstation. It should not be done lightly, nor as an attempt to repair other issues.

When I have used it I always write a .reg file to push at logon to flip it back to what "it should be", as well as a .reg file to flip it off to allow the access.

When I mentioned to turn off the Firewall, I only ment it for the download and installation of Macromedia Flash proggie... by no means did I mean it to be turned off period...

In my case it was that the Firewall messed with the downloading and installing of the Flash plugin to my browser... and in turn I turned it off, after I downloaded the file from the Internet and was already logged off...

hope this cleared it up a bit... sorry if it sounded otherwise...
