cant get image into Quark 3.32 (yea its old)

I am trying to import pics and I cant get the image to be read--keeps saying the "file not found -43". tried jpeg, bmp, gif....is there a trick or a patch??? ( I am using a PC at the moment) totally frustrating!!!

Have you tried TIFFs or EPSs? Version 3 would be much more likely to accept those...
