Okay... so. We have a DC setup with the naming convention:
school.premier.air.com (yeah..i know, i know.. it's SO not right.)

I've joined the workstations to the "school" domain. The domain is a small one.. 50 clients.

90% of the time a workstation can get a lease, but sometimes can't. Printers wont list in AD, and I can NOT get any GPO's to enforce. I've looked at the microsoft best practices to see if i can find anything and i've talked to BUNCHES of people.

My question is: Would a funky naming convention like the one above cause some of these issues to happen?

don't see what your problem is with your name and do not think your problems relate to it.
With your DHCP are you sure that you have enough addresses left Have you published your printers into AD. Do any errors appear when you try and enforce a GPO.
Are you saying that even domain GPO does not work

As for DHCP - check the switches - if they are Cisco or 3com especially. If they run spanning tree there is a well known problem whith port initialisation. Look for PortFast on Cisco or bridge\port\stpFastStart for 3com.

As for GPO's only tip I have is reboot at least twice before deciding they didn't work, when we make a change it almost always takes two reboots before the GPO is correctly applied.
