I'm using Backup Exec 8.6 on my Windows 2000 server with a Sony SDT-9000 12/24GB drive and I'm using Sony DGD125P DDS-3 tapes (brand new!). I am using the Veritas drivers rather than Window's, although I have tried both.
The problem I am having is my backup cannot seem to get more than 8 or 9GB on a tape, it will eject the tape and ask me for another. I understand about compression but I can't even get to the tape's uncompressed capacity!! I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software problem. Can someone please help!! Thanks in advance.

First, are the tapes labeled with that capacity? Be sure, you could be fighting a war over media that simply doesn't have that capacity.

Okay, assuming that is the case, can you fit that much data running the ntbackup program? If so, then you might search the veritas site, or look at updates. If not, then I would be looking for diagnostics that test your drive, or contacting the manufacturer's tech support.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

Is this the first job on the tape? If not, then the job is appending to what's on the tape and running out of room.
