First of all it's a 400mhz Sony Vaio PCG F290 notebook with I think 190+ memory or 256, and a 6 gigbyte drive, running WINME.
Right now no matter what I try all it does is begin to boot but then says gives me the std. Invailid System Disk, Replace Disk and hit any key error message. You know the message. Like when you have a data disk in the Floppy drive. Only I don't. And I have had system disks inther and it doesn't matter. Now I have made so many floppy system disks different ways and different routines but not one works. I had several original system boot disks I made that don't work.
I have held down the F2 and F8 keys but there is nothing there I have contol over this problem. I have tried my systems CD and I can't get it to work either. I tell you I am baffled.
Here's how I happened. All I did was turn my machine off, normally as far as I can remember. but I left a Zip disk in the IOmega 100 meg zip drive. Ok so I popped it out but ever since then I have this problem. Yes I made system boot disks on 100 zip disks. Didn't work.
Now there is one other problem the PC has and that is that a number of keyboard keys are out, dead, don't work. OK so before I could get this fixed I was using an external keyboard, just fine. But I wonder if possibly a key could be stuck and I do not know about it. You can't yell physically. What I recall is the del key and the number 6 being completely non functional, but not sticking or repeating. none of the F Keya or special keys had a problem. I don't want to reload the OS or Lose data even though I have 80 to 90% of the data from that PC I'd like a chance at what is left. I know I had email addresses that were not backed up. But I can't get to dos even if I wanted to do a format. And I can't get a system CD to work. I tell ya I'm lost.
See I can't get the machine to read anything. And I can't get to dos via the F2 set up or the F8 that I know how.
Maybe that's the anwser.
Help Please!
Cheers,
Andy
