Hi all,
I am very new to Unix environment. Here is my question. I try to ftp from my window NT to my Linux box but it doesn't work...connection refused. Anyone has any ideas?
Thanks,
BVT

BVT,

Hi -- My guess would be that you have not enabled FTP om your linux box. Have a look in the text file /etc/services, make sure that the line referring to ftp is not commented out. Mike

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.

I checked the /etc/services file and the line referring to ftp is not commented out.

The problem is that I did install ftp program on my machine.
After installed ftp program....I can ftp from my NT to my linux box now. Thanks so lot Mike

Brian.

You may also want to check your passwd file to make sure that ftpd is not commented out.

Checking just the /etc/services file can be inconclusive.
I would also check /etc/inetd.conf Or /etc/xinetd.d
for the ftp daemon.

Make sure you check your inetd.conf files to see if the ftpd is commented out. You can always use a port scanner to check out the ports that are open on your Linux box to see if port 21 is open and also ps -ef | grep ftp to check to see if the daemon is running
